Planning tips by travel style

Hikers and trekkers

March–May and October–November are ideal for the Jordan Trail and Petra on foot. Wadi Rum is fine year-round but pack layers in winter (nights below 0°C possible). Wadi Mujib Siq Trail is closed November–April.

Snorkelers and divers

Aqaba is a year-round destination — water temperatures range from 22°C in winter to 27°C in summer. November offers the warmest sea relative to air temperature. Visibility is excellent year-round.

Families with children

April and October are the most comfortable months across all regions. Avoid July–August at Petra and Wadi Rum — heat is exhausting for young children. Dead Sea is manageable in summer but intense heat requires early starts.

Budget and crowd avoidance

January–February offers the lowest hotel rates and thinnest crowds. Petra in winter can be dramatic — occasionally snowy. Pack for cold and rain. Avoid Petra the week after Easter (peak Christian pilgrimage).
